Scene, Indian Street Kitchen opened its doors in April 2015 and has had rave reviews since. And boy we know why! The energy in this place is in off the charts, along with the service. There’s a lot things to say about the food here but the real jewel in the crown is the amazing staff and ambience they create.
We ordered an array of starters to begin. First we had the vegetable pakora, just like an onion bhaji but with different vegetables. We also had the chicken tikka, a dish we’ve all have thousands of times but this one is different. The cubes of chicken are cooked over charcoal which leaves a beautiful smokey aftertaste. The most impressive visually was the samosa chaat, the presentation is insane. SO instagrammable! It is classic Indian street food, a poppadom bowl with all the filling inside. It's sweet on the tongue at first because of the pomegranate seeds but then turns slightly spicy and releases so much flavour! Finally we had fish amritsari, our only fish dish. The fish was sooo flakey and delicious with an obvious Indian taste without the flavours overpowering the dish. Our fave <3
After our feast of starters we were pretty full as you can imagine so we ended up sharing a curry. We went for the highly recommended Chicken Makhani, a mild, creamy curry full of tomatoes. If you’re looking for an alternative to the standard korma or passanda this is the one to go for. For rice we went for the saffron lemon rice which is again amazing for a change. It's pretty different to the rice we would normally choose but it compliments the curry completely, its a very aromatic rice. And of course, you couldn’t have a curry without some kind of bread! We went for chapatti, which was perfect. So fresh.
If ever you’re craving a curry or thinking of somewhere to go for a special event we would highly recommend Scene, we left the place feeling like royalty. We wish the service AND food was like this in all restaurants!
