Federal is already a well known, established name in Manchester, after visiting to grab some breakfast, we can certainly see why its one of the Northern Quarter's most popular cafes. Normally when we review food, we make notes as we eat so we don't forget to mention anything, on this occasion however we we're enjoying it so much, it completely slipped our mind.
This independently owned coffee shop has a great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of delicious locally sourced options on the menu to ensure Federal really stands out from the overcrowded breakfast/brunch cafe market, all of which are also perfectly affordable. Everything on the menu was so appetizing, including the breakfast cocktails which are to die for.
We picked our two favourites on there; Smashed Avocado with Bacon and Halloumi and Poached Eggs, both of which were served on delicious fresh toasted sourdough bread.
The first, the smashed avocado, was everything we love in a breakfast. The citrus avocado, crispy bacon and perfectly poached eggs sat presented nicely on the toast. We also ordered some grilled halloumi as a side to go with it (because we REALLY love halloumi!). It was a delicious balance of flavours textures, mixing the freshness of the avocado and rocket with the smokey bacon and crunchy sourdough toast, we could have this for breakfast everyday for the rest of our lives with no complaints!
The second item we ordered was another triumph for the European breakfast. Fresh Mediterranean flavours in the shape of rocket tangy tomato dressing, smokey grilled halloumi and spiced chickpeas. A great way to start your day, this dish was really really delicious.
