Who can say no to a plate with Kanye West's face on it, really? Well, certainly not us. We caught up with the brilliant Isabelle Laight to find out more on what's next for the coolest crockery designer in town...
How did you find your style & has it changed since you started?
I've always loved drawing so I made a comic book as one of my final pieces at University with myself and Biggie Smalls as the main characters which is where my style developed from. I've definitely started drawing more realistic features than when I first started which seems to be most popular!
What made you start experimenting with kitchen crockery? Do you have plans to expand to anything else?
With the crockery I like the idea that you could eat your dinner off Drake, grow a plant in a Snoop mug or hang it on a wall as an ornament so you can really make your piece your own. I like working with enamel as I bake the products in my oven to seal them and make them dishwasher proof and there are so many enamel items that work with the same aesthetic but are slightly different it's easy to introduce new products! I'm planning on expanding into underwear soon which I'm excited about and also candles.
What's your design process?
I have such a long list of people I want to draw! I start with using lots of different images of who'd I'd like to draw then sketching a few ideas out and colouring in the image to then scan it into photoshop to touch up any mistakes.
Do you have any projects you're working on that we should look out for?
I'm planning on doing a grime crockery range next! Then I'd also like to get back to my embroidery roots so am looking into incorporating this into the brand more..
What's your dream Sunday?
My dream Sunday would be to wake up in a cosy bed with white fluffy sheets and doze in and out of sleep whilst watching cooking shows then get up to have a lazy bath and go to a zoo or aquarium. Chilled, cosy and slow are my favourite Sundays! Then have some fried chicken in the evening to top it all off.
What's your favourite place on the planet?
McDonald's because I really do love it. How can you turn down 20 chicken nuggets!
