THE shop

Lucy & The Caterpillar is a vintage boutique in the heart of Hebden Bridge, selling hand-picked items from the 1930's onwards. It first opened in 2006 by mother and daughter, together expanding the business year after year. They also make dresses bespoke so you can have an item tailored to your perfect fit or simply adjust an item they already have to fit you like a glove! Not only that, daughter Lucy is also a singer/songwriter and regularly gigs in venues around Hebden Bridge and beyond.

THE atmosphere

Just a few steps from the hotel was this amazing restaurant and brewery. At Vocation & Co their aim is to set standards in beer and food and they definitely do that with flying colours. The Vocation brewery tap is a modern, minimal bar and restaurant on Hebden Bridge's main street, opposite the canal marina and visiting there made me feel like I was in Vancouver again!

THE beers

Starting in 2015 with just two people and a van, this brewery has grown rapidly and now sell around 4 million cans a year to independent outlets, supermarkets and world wide exports. Vocation produce their beers in their brewery in Hebden Bridge and produce punchy and distinctive beers, using American hops and fruity flavours including citrus, peach, pineapple, grapefruit and mango.

THE food

If the beers get you feeling peckish, they also sell amazing Mexican food. We shared a board with 8 tortillas and was amazed by the quality and taste of the food. It was such a lovely meal and the portion sizes were big enough that we ordered extra tortillas for just £1 to make more tacos as there was plenty of meat left over. They offer a selection of salsas from fresh and cool to hot and spicy, but that being said they are £1.50 each so I would recommend ordering the fries as they are only £3 and come with your choice of the salsas.

THE stay

Located in the centre of Hebden Bridge this B&B is the perfect location when visiting the town, it stands opposite the cobbled marina and it's also only a few minutes walk away from the railway station. The rooms are a unique fusion contemporary design while keeping with all the qualities of the original Victorian structure. We stayed in the Mediterranean room and it was lovely, I had such a good nights sleep and the bed was so huge, definitely big enough to fit more than 2 people in!

THE breakfast

Included in the price of your room is a gorgeous breakfast each morning. Freshly cooked and served with efficiency, you can choose from a selection of delicious options (I found it pretty difficult to choose as they all sounded amazing). If you can, ask if they have donker bread for your toast - it's a melted rye bread with added pin seeds. I'd never tasted it before visiting Moyles and it was so delicious!

THE shop

A shop I never knew I needed until we stumbled across it, filled to the brim of crockery it's one of those shops you're scared to breathe in but the owner immediately makes you feel at ease. Trading for over 23 years in the heart of Hebden Bridge you can pick up some stunning crockery here for unbelievable prices. Some items are end of the line, seconds or run-of-the-kiln but the secret is, a lot of these pieces are the same quality as huge brands like John Lewis. Obviously for a company as big as that, each item they order has to be identical to the next so when they aren't they head to Jules' to be sold for a hell of a lot cheaper!

Hardcastle crags

Midgehole Road,

Hebden Bridge, HX7 7AX

THE history

Hardcastle Crags is a beautiful wooden valley with a 19th-century mill at the heart of it, with more than 400 acres of unspoilt woodland. There are tumbling streams and glorious waterfalls, all crisscrossed by more than 15 miles of footpaths. At the heart of the valley is Gibson Mill, the National Trust's flagship sustainable building. There is a cute cafe which is solely ran on sustainable energy so they are sometimes not able to offer their full menu but will always have drinks, sandwiches and cake on offer. Just what we need after a long walk with over 200 years history around you.

THE food

One of the most recommended places to visit in Hebden Bridge, this cafe is entirely vegan and cruelty-free - YAY! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with the vision being to have a menu that even people who don't follow a vegan diet can enjoy and there being no risk and a guaranteed peace of mind that there isn't a risk of cross-contamination or any chance of food containing dairy or meat in anyway. As much as I love vegan restaurants, I'm not going to lie I was a little disappointed with this one. A lot of the menu won't be available if you're visiting in the afternoon which is so, so good for no waste but I ended up ordering my fourth choice on the menu so do bare that in mind when planning a visit. One thing I will rave about are the CAKES. I would highly recommend just going for a coffee and piece of cake to break up your day exploring the town, they are delicious and the flavour combinations are something else!

THE BAR

A mid-century furniture and home decor shop in the centre of Hebden Bridge, the staff are so lovely and friendly here and prices are pretty reasonable. You'll find some gorgeous pieces, stylish furniture and vintage bric-a-brac. The owners clearly have a good eye for home design as there are so many tempting items on offer!

THE shop

The shelves at Pennine Provisions are stocked with beautiful and interesting products, mainly from local suppliers and lots that you won't be able to find easily elsewhere. It's an independently run, community minded healthcare shop that also has a sandwich shop and deli. Staff are really knowledgeable and very keen to help which is the norm for Hebden Bridge really but something I never tire of mentioning!
